Recent highlights of accomplishments from the Department of Astronomy at UMass Amherst were highlighted in the summer 2021 edition of The Magazine of the University of Massachusetts. Among the shout outs include exciting new measurements by Prof. Daniel Wang of the galactic scale magnetic fields of a nearby spiral galaxy, results from Prof. Gopal Narayanan and the worldwide Event Horizon Telescope consortium, and the induction of Prof. Calzetti into the National Academy of Sciences. The article also features a short summary of a recent collaboration between Dr. Christina Williams and myself (UMass alumni unite!) in discovering a massive, hidden galaxy 12.5 billion light years away. A hard copy of this magazine is circulated to UMass alumni around the world.
